Shapiro continued to work as an attorney; his death was discovered when he failed to appear in court for a client and police were sent to his home in Kankakee to investigate. Death. Shapiro received a second cancer diagnosis in her later years. She died suddenly at age 71 on June 16, 2019, at a medical center north of San Francisco not far from her home, after a long struggle with respiratory issues. The actual cause of death is unknown.
